13th International Conference on Inductive Logic Programming (ILP2003)

The 13th International Conference on Inductive Logic Programming (ILP 2003),organized by the Department of Informatics at the University of Szeged, will be held in Szeged, Hungary, September 29 - October 1, 2003. The ILP conference series, started in 1991, was originally designed to provide an international forum for the presentation and discussion of the latest research results in all areas of learning logic programs. In keeping with this tradition, while reflecting also the broadening scope of the field, authors are invited to submit papers presenting original results in all aspects of learning logic programs, as well as multi-relational learning and data mining, learning in first-order logic and in other (non-propositional) logic-based knowledge representation frameworks. Typical, but not exclusive, topics of interest for submissions include

  • theoretical aspects (logical foundations, computational/statistical learning theory, specialization and generalization operators, etc.) of learning in logic (logic programs, constraint logic programs, Datalog, first-order logic, description logics, higher-order logic, etc.),

  • algorithmic aspects of learning in logic including the design of algorithms along with theoretical and/or empirical analysis, probabilistic and statistical approaches, distance and kernel-based methods, relational reinforcement learning, etc.,

  • learning and data mining from multi-relational databases, scalability issues, inductive databases, link discovery,

  • learning and data mining from structured (e.g., labeled graphs, tree patterns) and semi-structured data (e.g., XML documents), multi-instance learning,

  • efficient implementations and practical applications of multi-relational learning and data mining in bioinformatics, computational chemistry, computational linguistics, relational text and web mining, medical informatics, spatial data mining, etc.
 
Especially encouraged are papers emphasizing new topics related to learning in logic and multi-relational data mining.


 
 TIMETABLE
This year
authors are required to submit a paper title and a short abstract of about 200 words before submitting the paper.

   Camera-ready copies due:     July 9, 2003  

 PROCEEDINGS:
The proceedings of the conference will be published by Springer Verlag in the Lecture Notes in Artificial Intelligence subseries of LNCS. After the conference, authors of selected papers will be invited to submit an extended version for publication in a Special Issue of the journal Machine Learning. Those submissions will then be subject to a separate reviewing procedure according to the standards of the journal.


 
 SUBMISSION INFORMATION:
Papers must be written in English and should be no longer than 18 pages in Springer's LNCS/LNAI style. The cover page should include the paper title, each author's name, affiliation, and e-mail address, as well as the corresponding author's name, phone and fax numbers, a list of keywords, and an abstract of about 200 words. Only electronic submissions in PDF or PostScript file format will be accepted. It is the author's responsibility to ensure that the file is printable.  SIMULTANEOUS SUBMISSIONS:
This year, simultaneous submissions to ECML/PKDD-2003 are allowed, provided this fact is clearly indicated on the submission form. Accepted papers will appear in the ILP 2003 conference proceedings only if they are withdrawn from publishing in the proceedings of ECML/PKDD-2003. Parallel submissions that are not clearly specified as such will be rejected.

 SHORT PRESENTATIONS:
ILP 2003 will have a session of short, 5-10 minutes presentations. This session is intended for descriptions of work in progress, student projects, open problems and research issues, as well as new application challenges. Papers being published elsewhere are also suitable. Papers submitted to this session should be no longer than 10 pages and must be received by August 10, 2003. Authors will be notified of acceptance or rejection by August 25, 2003. Papers accepted for this session will appear electronically and/or in a technical report.
